Lumos EVOKE Camera Review: Worth the Hype?

I don’t have any big travel plans this month, so my friend and I decided to visit the beautiful, newly refurbished Sultan Abdul Samad Building that is now open to the public.

And it turned out to be the perfect opportunity to test the LUMOS EVOKE CAMERA I just received.

The full set

My first impression of the camera? It’s light. And for someone who’s borderline obsessive with packing light, this is a major selling point.

The LUMOS EVOKE CAMERA is compact, pocket-sized, and easy to just slip into my bag (or pocket, if they start making women’s pockets bigger).

Clear, beautiful visuals

The camera shoots 64MP photos and 4K video at 30fps.

I took pictures of the façade of the building, including the clock tower and the cloudy sky in the background, and the details were satisfyingly clear.

The colors stayed natural and not overly processed like some phone filters.

It has a 16× zoom that was super useful when I wanted to zoom in on architectural details like the majestic domes without actually having to climb up the domes.

I could also see the Royal Selangor Club from across the Merdeka Square.

Built-in filters

What makes the LUMOS EVOKE CAMERA different from many other cameras is its 16 built-in filters. You can instantly see the mood change on the screen. No editing apps or post-processing required. Just switch the filter and shoot.

With the vintage filter. Finally looking like we’re in the right era now.

We tried different filters and settled on the vintage one. It added a nice nostalgic mood that’s perfectly fitting for the historic building.

The buildings definitely look better with this filter, I think.

Flip screen & easy vlogging

The camera comes with a flip screen that made it super easy to frame ourselves while taking selfies.

This makes it super easy to take selfies.

For anyone who vlogs or films solo, this will help a lot too. I didn’t vlog that day, but just asked my friend to take a video of me walking:

There’s also a built-in flash, which is useful if you’re shooting in lower light (especially indoor cafés or evening walks).

All-day battery and USB-C charging

One thing I appreciated was that it charges with USB-C.

That means I can just use my regular power bank, laptop, or even charge in the car. No additional cable needed.

We were walking around and taking pictures for hours, and didn’t have to worry about it dying halfway.

Price & availability

The LUMOS EVOKE CAMERA is priced at:

  • RM299 (32GB)
  • RM399 (128GB)

It comes with a 1-year local warranty and dedicated customer support, and is currently available on the official LUMOS website:
https://www.lumosprojector.my/evokecamera

They currently ship within Malaysia only.

Is the LUMOS EVOKE CAMERA worth buying?

For its price point, the LUMOS EVOKE CAMERA performs well and delivers solid results for casual use.

Of course, it’s not meant to compete with high-end DSLRs or professional mirrorless cameras. It’s designed for everyday memories, aesthetic content, and easy shooting without the complexity of professional gear.

Most of my “everyday memories” involve food.

I’d recommend it for casual travelers, students, and anyone who loves taking aesthetic photos and videos but doesn’t want to do much editing afterwards.

Plus, LUMOS has been around for years and has received over 2,000 5-star reviews from Malaysians on their website.

Honestly, I can see myself bringing the LUMOS EVOKE CAMERA on future trips. I’ve actually lost my phone twice while travelling abroad, and that experience taught me:

  1. not to take my phone out constantly or rely on it for everything; and
  2. to always have a backup camera.

Having a separate camera just for photos and videos gives me peace of mind. It also means not draining my phone battery or using up all my storage just to capture more memories.

I like the idea of keeping my phone for essentials and letting the LUMOS EVOKE CAMERA handle the moments.
