I’ve always loved capturing my travels, but when it comes to adventure activities, bringing the right camera can be tricky.
My phone is convenient, but I don’t always want to risk bringing it into the sea, on a speedboat, or during activities where it might get wet, dropped, or covered in sand.
So when I got the chance to try the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera, I knew I wanted to test it properly, not just take a few shots around the city.
For my first real adventure with it, I brought it along for an island-hopping trip in Mersing, Johor, where I used it while riding a speedboat, hiking, exploring the islands, and snorkelling around beautiful Pulau Rawa, Pulau Besar, and the surrounding islands.
Basically, I threw it into the kind of situations an action camera is actually made for.
First impressions: A complete adventure camera setup straight out of the box
What I immediately appreciated about the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera is that the bundle already comes with almost everything you need to start shooting.
Inside the package, you get:

- Hard carrying case
- Selfie stick / extension pole
- Rechargeable batteries x2
- Dual-battery charging dock
- Flexible mini tripod
- DOMINATE Action Camera with waterproof case
- Wireless remote
- USB-C cable
- Mounting screws x2
- Quick-release buckle
- Bike mount
- Straps
- Tripod adapter
- Waterproof case joint mount
- Flat mounts x2
- Adhesive pads x2
- 32GB memory card included
For first-time action camera users, this is convenient because you don’t have to spend extra money buying accessories before you can start recording.
Just charge it, insert the memory card, put on the waterproof case when needed, and you’re ready to go.
The highlights
The highlight of the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera is definitely its video capability.
It can shoot:
- 5K Ultra HD video
- 4K video at 60FPS
- 48MP photos
For my Mersing trip, I mainly used it to capture wide scenic shots, including part of the speedboat journey, island views, beaches, and underwater moments while snorkelling.
The 4K 60FPS setting was especially useful for moving scenes. When you’re bouncing around on a boat or walking along uneven trails, having smoother footage makes a really big difference.
The footage captured the colors of the ocean, the details of the islands, and the overall adventure feeling that I wanted to preserve.
Electronic image stabilization (EIS)
One concern I always have with action cameras is shaky footage.
A beautiful view can quickly become difficult to watch if the camera is constantly bouncing around.
Thankfully, the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera comes with built-in Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), which helps reduce shakiness when filming while moving.
During my island-hopping trip, I used it while riding the speedboat, walking around the islands, and hiking.
Since adventure travel is rarely perfectly still, having stabilization helps make the footage smoother without needing extra editing.
Wide 170° lens
The camera comes with a 170° wide-angle lens, which is perfect for travel because it allows you to capture more in a single frame.
This was especially useful when filming wide ocean views, group shots, landscapes, boat rides, and beach scenery.
Instead of constantly adjusting the camera to fit everything in, the wide-angle lens helps capture the whole scene and makes the footage feel more immersive.

Waterproof case
Of course, the biggest test was bringing it into the water.
The LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera comes with a waterproof case, so you can take it swimming, snorkelling, or even use it in rainy conditions.
I used it while snorkelling around the islands to capture underwater footage.
Being able to bring a dedicated camera into the water meant I didn’t have to worry about exposing my phone to saltwater.
It made it easier to just focus on enjoying the experience while recording marine life, coral, and the beautiful clear waters.
Dual screens

As someone who usually does all the filming myself, I find the dual-screen setup extremely useful.
The LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera has both front and back screens, so you can easily check your framing whether you’re filming yourself, scenery, or other people.
This makes a huge difference when recording selfie videos, talking segments, vlogs, and group shots.
No more guessing whether you’re accidentally cutting off your head or filming a random person behind you instead.
Other features
Besides normal video recording, the camera also supports different shooting modes, including:
- Slow motion
- Loop recording
- Time-lapse
This gives you more creative options depending on what kind of content you want to create.
For travel videos, I can see myself using the time-lapse for sunsets or boat journeys, and slow motion for waves or action shots.
Battery life & USB charging
The LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera comes with rechargeable batteries and supports USB-C charging.
The battery can last up to around 2 hours of filming, which is useful when you’re out exploring.
I also appreciate that it uses the same USB-C cable as many phones and other travel gadgets.
When packing light, having fewer cables to carry is always a bonus.
Is the LUMOS DOMINATE action camera worth it?
Let’s set expectations first: the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera is not designed to replace professional cameras or high-end action cameras used by filmmakers.
Instead, it’s made for casual users, travelers, and adventure lovers who want to capture their experiences without spending thousands on equipment.
For RM499 (camera only) or RM598 (bundle), it offers impressive features for the price:
- 5K video
- 4K 60FPS recording
- 48MP photos
- EIS stabilization
- Waterproof case
- Dual screens
- Multiple accessories included
Compared to more expensive action cameras that can cost RM1,000 and above, the LUMOS DOMINATE Action Camera offers a more affordable way for beginners to start creating adventure content.

For activities like snorkeling, hiking, kayaking, boat rides, and outdoor adventures, having a dedicated action camera gives me more freedom to capture moments without constantly worrying about protecting my phone.
Having a small camera built for adventure means I can focus more on the experience, while still bringing home the memories.
